Uduaghan to Sriking Doctors.

-Show Compassion.

Delta State Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has appealed to doctors in the state to show compassion and call of their strike as it was already claiming causalities in the hospitals.

Nigerian Medical Association, NMADr. Uduaghan who was speaking at a seminar organized for political office holders by the state government on Anger Management and Peace building enjoined doctors to call of the strike in order to save lives and avoid more deaths.

He said the door of the state government was open for further negotiation even as he appealed to them to forgive him if before the strike and now he did anything that annoyed them.His words "I appeal to striking doctors in the state to call of their strike, people are dying in the hospitals and you should show understanding and compassion".

The governor said it was as a result of anger that doctors went on strike and explained that the seminar would help set the tone and sharpen the awareness of stakeholders on how to tackle the challenges of anger. Dr Uduaghan condemned election related anger as it threatens the development and consolidation of democracy.

He said election related anger and violence cast doubt on the credibility and legitimacy of election results irrespective of whether such result came out of free and fair election.The governor, therefore called on politicians not to sponsor rigging but should go out to sell themselves and canvass for votes so that the country could witness an anger and violence free election.

Promising that his administration would continue to campaign for violence free election in 2011, Dr Uduaghan said "we are canvassing for one man one vote and we are educating our people on their right to register and cast their votes. By this we are preparing the people to avoid anger and violence".

He urged Deltans to use the seminar to enrich their crisis management potentials and imbibe the spirit of peaceful and harmonious co-existence. The Chairman of the occasion Chief Fortune Ebie called on stakeholders to avoid actions that could bring anger and violence in the society.

Chief Ebie called on resource persons to proffer reasonable practical solution to the problem of anger and violence during the elections explaining that politicians, Scholars, the business community as well as contractors among others were always fueling anger and violence in their various environment.

Speaking during the ceremony the Asagba of Asaba Obi Prof Chike Edozie called on politicians to be tolerant and contribute their quota to the growth of society so that they would be remembered for solving problems and not for creating confusion.

The royal father who was represented by high Chief John IIoba urged the political class not to overheat the polity but should always demonstrate the spirit of good sportsmanship. In his speech the president of CAN pastor Ayo Oritsejafor appealed to Nigerians to be slow to anger and violence.

Explaining that anger and violence wreck havoc and negatively affect our health, pastor Oritsejafor enjoined Nigerians not to be desperate over power. He cited the biblical example of Cane and Abel as well as that of Apostle Peter who cut of the ear of somebody and urged Christians to be peaceful at all times.

The Secretary to Delta State government Dr Mrs. Beatrice Omeni said the seminar was organized to sensitize Deltans on the danger of anger explaining that if anger was not properly managed the society would suffer several set back and would be plunged into perpetual chaos.

Dr. Omeni said the seminar would create awareness among Deltans and make them shun violence since it bears no positive dividend but rather increases frustration, disappointment and violence of many dimensions.
