Uduaghan Appeals to Striking Medical Workers.

DELTA State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan Tuesday appealed to medical workers to end their strike.
He said "children, women and men are dying"at the hospitals.

Doctors and other health workers in the state began an indefinite strike a fortnight ago following the non-payment of the Consolidated Salary Structure (CONMESS).

The government has agreed to pay 60 per cent of the 100 per cent approved by the Federal Government.

Uduaghan made the appeal in Asaba during a seminar entitled: Anger Management and Peace Building Support, organised by the state government.

He told the doctors not to frustrate the government’s health policy.

The governor said: "Anger is not limited to politics alone. Right now, a lot of our workers in the health sector are on strike because of wages.

"Federal Government has approved for the federal workers in the health sector in various states wage increase.

"In Delta State, our own workers have gone on strike, and some of the reasons they have gone on strike is that they are angry that the state government did not increase their wages.

"I can say as the governor, that is not quite true, but I do not want to join issues with them.

"If I have made them angry, I apologise. I want to use this opportunity to appeal to them that people are dying everyday, children are dying , men and women are dying. This, I believe, should not happen. Every death that occur from our anger is very dangerous...’
