Jos Crisis:
Delta Evacuates Indigenes.
Delta State Government has commenced the evacuation of its indigenes caught in the religious crisis in Jos, Plateau State, back home in order to ensure that no Deltan is left stranded in the conflict areas. Already, the first batch of those evacuated has arrived Asaba, the state capital.
The state government took the step following the personal intervention of His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, the Governor who immediately directed relevant government departments and agencies to ensure that those evacuated be assisted to return to their homes and reunite with their families in different parts of the state.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Oma Djebah, the state government has already put up a team headed by the Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Ross Uredi and made up of officials of the State Emergency Relief Agency, among others, to bring all Deltans trapped in the crisis back home safely.
Djebah said the swift move by Governor Uduaghan is in line with the peace and security agenda of the state government, noting that necessary logistics needed for the evacuation has been provided to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
According to the Commissioner, about 600 Deltans comprising 200 persons of the School of Accountancy, Jos and 400 students of the University of Jos have so far been evacuated from the trouble zone and brought home to safety and are being reunited with their families in various parts of the state.
