DELTA State governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan has warned that he would sack public servants in the state who are inefficient.

Uduaghan who was speaking at the interdenominational thanksgiving service to mark Nigeria's 49th independence anniversary at St. Peter's Anglican Cathedral, Asaba said the remaining two years of his administration would witness massive development and warned that he would not tolerate unproductive political appointees and public servants.

"l am in a hurry to move the state forward. The remaining two years of my administration is strategic and it is going to task all. If you are a messenger or cleaner do your work well, because if you don't, this re-organisation shall affect you," he said.

"The shake-up in the state executive council carried out recently was just the beginning. It is going to go down the line and those who are not doing their work well will be caught up in the web," Uduaghan said.

The governor who said everybody was important in the challenges ahead charged all workers to contribute their quota to move the state forward.

Assuring Delta residents that he would continue to promote peace and security, the governor called on armed youths and other criminals to use the opportunity of the amnesty to surrender their arms.

Uduaghan warned that after October 4, security operatives would be decisive in dealing with criminals in the state even as he noted that there would be no hiding place for men of the underworld.

He enjoined all those who harbour criminals especially landlords to be cautious and give accommodation to only those with visible means of livelihood.

The governor also had a word for journalists to be guided by the ethics of their profession.

He urged them to draw from the social responsibility theory and not only be factual and truthful but respect the privacy of individuals.

In his sermon, Primate-elect of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Nicholas Okoh regretted that the leadership of the states and the country was facing problems in all sectors of the economy.

Okoh said the so-called God-fearing leaders in the country were responsible for its woes, explaining that a truly God-fearing man fears God and eschews all forms of evil.

He therefore charged the political class to be truly God-fearing and be committed to avoid all the lapses that make them to fail.

The newly elected primate later prayed for peace and progress both in Delta State and the entire country.

The wife of the governor, Roli Shelia Uduaghan was present at the ceremony. Others were the Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN) and his wife, Speaker, State House of Assembly, Martin Okonta, members of the State House of Assembly, traditional rulers among others.
