DTSG Restates Commitment to Building a Corruption Free State.

Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, says his administration is focused on building a consolidated, strong, united and corruption Free State.

Amos Utuama Emmanuel AyoolaDr. Emmanuel Uduaghan stated this through his deputy, Prof Amos Utuama (SAN), while declaring open the National Conference of Anti-Corruption Committees in Nigerian legislatures and heads of anti-corruption units in government establishment in Asaba.

The Governor said, corruption is an unfortunate anti-development phenomenon which must be confronted, stressing that corruption has become a significant obstacle to socio-economic and democratic development in governments, businesses, civil society organizations and the entire citizenry.

He emphasized that to battle corruption in government, businesses, civil society organizations and ordinary citizen themselves must be focused in building and consolidating anti- corruption practices.

Dr Uduaghan disclosed that the Fiscal Responsibility and the Delta State Procurement Bills which has been signed into law are intended to commit all institutions, organs and Officials of Government to a new era of fiscal transparency, accountability and value for money in Government business through strict adherence to due process.

The Chairman of ICPC Justice Emmanuel Ayoola at the occasion, stated that the fight against corruption in the country is not selective and cannot be measured by the number of Governors that have been investigated or prosecuted but the success in the fight against corruption could be known by the widespread attitudinal change, characterized by zero tolerance for corruption that would result in people trusted with power.

He emphasized that the fight against corruption in the society can only succeed if there is a culture of integrity, stating that the conference was designed to provide a platform for anti-corruption committees in all Nigerian legislatures from national, states and local government councils to reflect on how to move the fight against corruption forward.

Justice Ayoola called for cross fertilization of ideas between the leadership of committees and heads of anti-corruption and transparency monitoring units in Federal, States, Ministries, Department and Agencies towards the crusade against corruption
