DTSG Speeds Up Process to Rehabilitate Armed Youths.
Preparations for the rehabilitation of armed youths recently granted amnesty by the Federal Government and plans to reintegrate them back to society are already on top gear in Delta State.
This was the indication as the Commissioner Directorate of Youth Development, Reverend (Mrs.) Omatsola Williams led a team of Government officials on a fact finding mission to six designated youth centers across the State that may likely be used for the rehabilitation of militants youths that would lay down their arms and embrace the amnesty offered by President Musa Yar’Adua to them recently.
The team which comprises Government officials from the State Attorney General's and Ministry of Justice, Economic Planning, office of the Secretary to the State Government and Directorate of Youth Development first visited the Ewulu Citizenship and Leadership Training Center also known as Swamp School, located in Aniocha North Local Government Area, where the Youth Commissioner expressed satisfaction with facilities on ground and the location of the center which she described as serene.
Other places visited by the team include the Aviara Youth Center and the Bulu-Angiama Youth Center.
Speaking with journalists at the end of the inspection visit, Mrs. `Tsola Williams said that the visit was geared towards identifying centers where rehabilitation of repentant youths will take place.
She disclosed that the Federal Government has set up a National Working Committee already moving from one state to the other within the region, adding that the situation on ground is an emergency one that required the support of all stakeholders.
While saying that the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is the Chairman of the Rehabilitation Committee set up by the State Government, she also disclosed that within the next one week a town hall meeting will be held, where all stakeholders will brainstorm to come out with workable ideas and plans that would help sustain the programme.
