Uduaghan Appeals to Ijaw Leaders to Prevail on Armed Youths.

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has appealed to foremost Ijaw ethnic nationality leader Chief Edwin Clark and other leaders of thought in the State to prevail on militants to accept the Federal Government amnesty. 

The Governor, who made the appeal at Kiagbodo in Burutu Local Government Area while briefing Chief Clark on the Federal government amnesty and efforts to rehabilitate displaced Gbaramatu residents, emphasized President Yar'Adua sincerity to pardon and rehabilitate all militants who are willing to turn a new leaf from their violent past.

He said the President personally assured him that militants who accept the amnesty would not be prosecuted.

Dr. Uduaghan aid the State Government was working with the Joint Military Task Force to ensure the return of displaced Gbaramatu kingdom residents.

While giving assurance that repairs to all damaged property will be out, the Governor said some of the displaced persons were being supported by State Government through temporary camp at Ogheh-Ijoh. Chief Clark welcomed President Yar'Adua's offer of amnesty and commended Governor Uduaghan's efforts at finding solution to the armed faceoff between the military and the militants.

The former Minister of Information, who described the military assault on Ijaw communities as sad, called on all armed youths to accept the amnesty and shun attack on oil installions and personnel.

Chief Clark who described the visit of the Governor to him at Kiagbodo as timely called on the Federal Government to embark on large scale development of the Niger Delta.
