The Delta State Internal Revenue Consolidation Bill has been passed by the State House of Assembly. The bill was passed yesterday following the suspension of order fifty-one of the House rules.

The proposed law is intended to shore up the Internal revenue profile of the State by bringing into the fold, revenue sources not explored by the State Internal Revenue Service.

The bill also provides for the formal establishment of the State Board of Internal Revenue as the existing board had no legal backing.

The Chairman, Finance and Appropriation Committee, Honourable Daniel Mayuku said his committee did a thorough job on the bill because of the importance attached to it by the State Government.

Honourable Mayuku said the proposed law would enhance internally generated revenue in the State and address the problem of double taxation.

He said the new Board of Internal Revenue would be headed by a Career Civil Servant who would serve a tenure of four years, while the three Senatorial Districts would be represented by persons who are experts in taxation.

The House confirmed the appointment of Mrs. Pat Ejete as the Chairman of the State Universal Education Board, SUBEB. Confirmed along with her were Honourable Gibson Akporehe, Dr. Bello Orubebe and Mrs. May Inijie who are to serve as members of the Board.

The House also confirmed Engineer Gbesemi Akperi as the member representing the Itsekiri nationality on the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC.

The House received the report of its Committee on Peace, Security, Legal and Judicial matters on the Delta State Multi-Door Courthouse bill.
