FIFA Under-17 World Cup
The former member of the dissolved Steering Committee setup by Federal Government on the Niger Delta crisis, Mr. Bernard Jamaho, has called on Uduaghan and the Delta State House of Assembly to sack the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Mr. Amaju Pinnick, for failing to complete the Warri Township Stadium before the last visit of the FIFA inspection officials.
Jamaho said, when he realised that the Warri Stadium was not one of the stadium to host the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, he concluded that Pinnick was not fit for his present position as the chairman of Delta State Sports Commission and therefore called for his immediate sack.
Jamaho, who spoke to newsmen in Ughelli, Delta State, stressed that the call for his sack became necessary for failing the people of Delta State, particularly Warri, who are sports loving people, noting, that was why they did not raise eyebrow when they were talking about the extension programme on the stadium as Deltans were expecting a standard job and for it to be delivered.
He explained that the former governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, voted billions of naira into the stadium project and did a massive job on that place to justify the expenses before the present governor was elected.
According to him, "One didn't expect that this kind of thing could happen. I wouldn't know what is in a pitch that cannot be re-grassed for a period of one month, even if I am not a professional in that respect but I have brains. All we needed do was to get proper people to come and do it for us. "I am using this medium to call for Amaju suspension, if possible sack and a proper board of enquiry be setup to look at the issues of hosting of the Under-17 World Cup and the entire contracts awarded under Amaju administration probed.
