Cooperate Bodies Charged to Support Government in Sports Private and Cooperate.
Organizations operating in the State have been charged to complement government's efforts at promoting and developing sporting activities.
The Deputy Governor, Professor Amos Utuama SAN, gave the charge in Asaba in a dinner session organized by the State Sports Commission for Bank Managers and Chief Executives of some companies operating in the State.
Professor Utuama urged them to play an active role in the area of sponsorship of sports programmes and implored private investors in the State to ensure allocation of funds for the sponsorship of sporting activities in their annual budget. He stated that the present administration was poised to ensure that sporting activities continued to excel as well as create an enabling environment for sports to be private sector driven.
The Deputy Governor regretted that the potency of sports as a veritable tool for development is yet to be fully embraced in the country as sports is still left for government alone to fund and organize.
The Chairman of the Sports Commission, Mr. Pinnick Amaju, appealed to Banks and other organized private investors to support government in sporting programmes.Mr. Amaju who commended Oceanic Bank Plc for committing over one million Naira to sports sponsorship in the State and enjoined other investors to emulate such gesture.
Responding on behalf of Private Investors operating in the State, the Oceanic Bank Zonal Head, Mid-west, Mr. Famous Ajemrona, gave assurance that the Banks and other private investors would be ready to support sporting activities in the State.
