DTSG to Commence Reconstruction of Ugborode and Okerenkoko Communities.
Delta State Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has set machinery in motion to start the immediate reconstruction of towns in Ogborode and Okerenkoko clans that were destroyed during the JTF and Militant clash few months ago.
Towards this end a new committee to handle the reconstruction of the towns will be inaugurated soon. The governor who stated this when he presided over the State Vision 2020 Council meeting in Asaba yesterday, gave assurance that the state government would re-build the destroyed communities before March next year.
He explained that a new Master Plan of the communities has been put in place and the committee members would work with it when constituted.
Uduaghan promised that all communities destroyed during the May 13 crisis would be re-built by his administration explaining however that re-construction would be taken in turns and after Okerenkoko and Ogborode other communities would follow.
According to him “As a State, we are concerned in developing the destroyed communities like Okerenkoko and Ogborode. A committee will be set up to look into it. Already a master plan have been drawn for the re-structuring and we hope they will be able to re-build the towns latest by March next year”.
The governor said his administration has touched the lives of Deltans through infrastructure development, Micro-Credit Scheme and other dividends of democracy too numerous to mention.
He said that the unfortunate incident of militant bombardment of communities in creeks on May 13 made the governors of the Niger Delta Region to meet with the federal government to resolve the crucial issues involved.
His words “We as Niger Delta governors took interest in the Petroleum Bill, the movement of the Petroleum Institute in Effurun to Kaduna and making sure that the amnesty works out. We have also been working on how to rehabilitate the armed Youths and make them gainfully employed”.
He said his administration was committed towards ensuring economic growth in the state through the provision of necessary infrastructure like accessible road, functional seaports and airports, youth empowerment and improved power supply.
He promised that the state government will continue to assist the Federal Government in the repairs of the destroyed Gas plant at Utorogu and building her own Independent power plant to increase the power generated in the state.
Members of the council include captains of industry, former governors and deputy governors, principal officers of the State, House of Assembly, professional Deltans in Diaspora and those at home, among others.
