UGBORODO community in Warri South-West Local Government Council of Delta State has appealed to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of the state, to prevail on the authorities of Chevron Nigeria Limited to complete the abandoned Ugborodo new town project.

It will be recalled that the administration of the immediate past governor of the state, Chief James Ibori commenced the project in order to address the accommodation problem being faced by the community members who were displaced due to oil exploration and exploitation in the area, regretting however that the oil company abandoned the project since the exit of the Ibori administration.

In a statement made available to Vanguard in Benin City, signed by Mr Eworitsemogha Tsebi, on behalf of the community, the community lamented that the project failed to be completed during the administration of Governor Ibori due to what it described as the inadequate supervision of the project by the committee set up by the then governor to supervise the project.

The statement said therefore that "we cannot sit down watching Chevron and other oil companies to come here and cart away our wealth while we remain in abject poverty. The only solution is for the state government to do justice by ordering Chevron and other contractors handling the Ugborodo New Town Project to mobilize to site urgently for the completion and commissioning by your government.

Niger Delta crisis is no more barrier to development". The statement further urged the Governor "to liaise with the Federal Government to re-open the police post at Madangho which was burnt down during the Warri crisis and the establishment of a naval base earmarked for Madangho.

This will usher in ample peace and development in the year 2009 and beyond if this is done. Any encroachment to the town project land will be dealt with accordingly. "We appreciates the state government's peace struggle but he should pay more attention to the riverine areas of the state.

The completion and commissioning of Ugborodo new town project is a task that must be accomplished" it stated
