THE Councillor representing Abari Ward II, Patani Local Government Area, Delta State, Hon. Edmund Guanah has charged Local Government Councils across the country to execute projects that would positively transform the lives of the people at the grassroots.

Guanah who also is the Coordinator of Team Uduaghan 2007 in the Local Government, appealed to the Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to introduce a yearly prize for the best performing council Chairmen in the state.

The Councillor who was fielding questions from journalists, yesterday at Ughelli, said the introduction of such a prize would promote development in the 25 council areas of the state in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

He stressed the need for Local Government Councils to justify their existence as third tier of government by executing projects that could have bearing
on the lives of the people in their council areas.

According to him, Local Government Councils in the country were not performing well enough so as to spread the dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots.

Guanah also canvassed the need for journalists to embark on yearly media tours of local government facilities in their respective areas with the view of publishing same to show to the people what the council did in terms of projects in the year under review.

He held that it would spur the council chairmen to work hard for their people, stressing that the Team Uduaghan 2007 in Patani Local Government Area was already making plans to award best performing council chairmen.
