Three Day Bee-Keeping Workshop for Rural Women Kicks Off in Koko.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Ogaranya TabsTabowei said that the Mobilization of Rural Women for Sustainable Agriculture Unit was created in the Ministry based on the recognition of the vital role of women whose force on the farms is put at over eighty percent coupled with the perception that special attention and support should be given to rural women farmers.

The Agric Commissioner said this during the flag-off of a three-day capacity building workshop in Bee-keeping for the rural women farmers in Koko, Warri North Local Government Area.

He recalled that since the creation of MORWSA in 2004, over thirty thousand, six hundred women farmers in the State have been mobilized and sensitized while fifty-five women groups have been empowered in various projects such as cassava processing mills, homestead poultry, snailry, provision of walking-tractors, palm-oil processing mills and boreholes.

Earlier in their address, Koko Agric Services through its spokesperson, Mrs. Glori Fregene, said that the Koko Agric Services would partner with government towards achieving its laudable agricultural programmes.

The rural farmers pledged to utilize effectively whatever assistance rendered by Governor Uduaghan's administration. Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Ogaranya Tabs-Tabowei, has also commissioned a water borehole at Gana in Sapele constructed by Special Project Department of the Ministry through MORWSA.

The Commissioner commended the Co-ordinator of MORWSA for her sound vision in citing the water project at Gana for the use by both Gana and Oruakpa communities in Sapele.

Dr. Tabs-Tabowei said that his Ministry would continue to assist the rural farmers within available resources and he advised the rural dwellers to protect and make judicious use of facilities provided by the government so as to attract more.
