Oshimili North LGA Launches Micro Credit Scheme.
In line with its resolve to positively touch the lives of the people, the Oshimili North Local Government has launched the Council's micro credit scheme to empower the people of the Local Government area.
In an address the Council Chairman, Barrister Ben Okonkwo said the setting up of a micro credit scheme is one of the strategies the Council has mapped out to make the women and teeming unemployed youths self reliant, adding that it would enable indigenes have access to funds with which they could start small businesses or improve on already existing ones.
The Council Chairman assured the people that the exercise would be a continuous one and that more persons would benefit in subsequent exercises just as the amount budgeted for the scheme increases with time, to meet the increasing demand.
He commended the consultant to the Oshimili North Council on Micro Credit, Mrs. Franca Daniel for her effort in ensuring that the indigenes enjoy the benefit of micro credit. Barrister Okonkwo appealed to the beneficiaries not to see the scheme as an opportunity of getting their own share of the national cake, but as one aimed at helping them emerge from job seekers to creators of wealth.
The Consultant to the Oshimili North Council on Micro Credit scheme, Mrs. Franca Daniel said that each beneficiary would be availed the sum of fifty thousand naira to enable them boost their business.
Mrs. Daniels said structures have been put in place to ensure monitoring of the use of the loans adding that failure to pay back will attract sanction and the use of legal means.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Council for the privilege to increase their businesses and promised to utilize the loans for the appropriate purpose. Highpoint of the occasion was the launch of the micro Credit scheme and the presentation of loans and certificates to the beneficiaries.
