Burutu Indigenes Commend Uduaghan for Micro-Credit Scheme

The people of Burutu North and South in Burutu Local Government Area have commended Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for giving the grassroots opportunity to tap into the Delta State Micro-Credit programme.

The people made the commendation when the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Micro Credit, Dr. Anthonia Ashiedu visited Tuomo and Burutu towns to present certificates to micro credit clients in the area.

The people said they were impressed with the caliber of people at the grassroots the revolving loan was targeted at and promised to adhere strictly to the terms of agreement by paying back the money on time to give others the opportunity to enjoy the facility.

Beneficiaries who were mainly small scale business men and women as well as farmers said the programme among other things will improve the socio-economic well being of the people in the State.

The people presented with certificates to access the funds in micro credit banks approved by the State Government were fresh and dried fish sellers, palm oil and palm kernel sellers, foodstuff dealers, wrapper sellers, provision store owners, phone and recharge card retailers, electronics sellers, building material sellers, kerosene sellers, soda soap producers and owners of bread bakeries.

Others were periwinkle suppliers, local dry gin sellers, cosmetics dealers, plantain sellers and cassava processing mill owners. The Executive Assistant to the Governor on micro credit, Dr. Anthonia Ashiedu said the revolving loan was to alleviate poverty among rural and urban dwellers.

Dr. Ashiedu urged the clients in Tuomo and Burutu to work as a team in investing the money, saying that a total of two hundred and twenty-seven groups comprising two thousand, three hundred and ninety-eight persons have been offered the privilege to access the loan in all towns and villages of Burutu Local Government.

She said so far a total of one thousand two hundred and forty-two cluster groups made up of seventeen thousand and ten persons have been issued certificates in the three Senatorial Districts of the State.
