Uduaghan Tasks Journalists on Nation Building.

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has urged practising journalists in the country to adhere strictly to the social responsibity theory of the press.

Uduaghan, who spoke through the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Oma Djebah, during 2010 Press Week of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Asaba, Delta State told journalists to lean on values that bind Nigeria together as a nation rather than creating needless tension, adding, "we should avoid mistaking tension with struggle."

He appealed to them to set agenda for a healthy public discourse, adding that publishing to be damned was not the best way. "You should have a pan-Nigeria vision, not parochial views that tend to show a tunnel vision."

In his address, chairman of the State Council of the NUJ, Mr. Osita Biose, said the council was determined to get rid of quacks in the profession.

Mr. Biose appealed to the state government and individuals to assist the union in building a befitting secretariat for the union in the state.

Osita said the union in the state was committed to the ethics of the profession.Also speaking, Dr Ezoem Ignatuis, Director, Academic Planning, Federal College of Education, Technical, Asaba described the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Oma Djebah as a politician with a good leadership charisma.
