Delta State Pledges Completion of Warri Water Scheme
WORRIED by the slow pace of work at the Warri/Effurun Water Scheme, the Delta State government has restated its commitment to the timely completion of the project.
The reassurance was made when the Commissioner for Special Duties in charge of the project, Mr. Fred Majemite, paid a routine inspection to the site at the weekend.
He decried the slow pace of work, noting that the state government would ensure that the project was completed within the shortest possible time as it is of immense benefit to the people.
Majemite explained that the government was not intimidated by the huge financial cost involved in completing the scheme and as such committed huge sums so far.
He added: "This underscores the Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan administration's resolve to ensure its success," he said.
He, therefore, urged the contractors to rededicate themselves to the project to ensure its speedy completion, stressing that the present administration was poised to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people through massive infrastructural development.
The commissioner, who was accompanied on the visit by top government functionaries, inspected the boreholes, water treatment plants, as well as the project office and housing estate still under construction.
The consultant handling the project, Mr. Dennis Ofodili had earlier appealed to the state government for more funds to ensure the completion of the project in record time, even as he pledged the commitment of the contractors to the scheme.
The Warri/Effurun water scheme has an installed capacity of over 70,000 cubic litres of water per day. It is expected to supply potable water to over 50 communities in Warri and its environs and is being funded by the state government.
