Uduaghan's Wife Fights Child Mortality.
WIFE of Delta State Governor, Mrs. Roli Uduaghan, has set up a project to tackle the menace of pneumonia-induced child mortality.
Mrs. Uduaghan told reporters at the weekend in Asaba that she was shocked to learn that about six million Nigerians suffer from pneumonia, mostly children out of which about 200,000 die yearly.
She said it was in the light of these frightening statistics that she decided to partner with the John Hopkins University in the United States (U.S.) to fight the scourge.
The disease, she said, was a deadly killer. "More people especially children suffer and die from pneumonia yearly.
It is more deadly than that the dreaded Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) and malaria but it is unfortunate that the people are not aware of it. It is a silent killer."
With partial funding from the notable American university, the governor's said a seminar on the killer disease would be held on the World Pneumonia Day in Warri.
The campaign against the disease would be carried out by her pet project, I Care Foundation.
"We must all join hands to fight pneumonia. It is a silent killer of people, mostly children. The first thing is to make people to be aware. That is why we are launching the campaign and inviting experts to Warri to discuss the scourge."
