THE Ijaw Movement for Power Shift (IMPS) and the Niger Delta Pathfinder (NDP), have advised Ijaw youths not to allow themselves to be engaged as armed thugs, assassins and mercenaries by disadvantaged political office seekers for their personal gains.

In a statement made available to Vanguard in Warri, signed by its coordinator, Mallam Yusuf Eregbene and three others, IMPS said “we acknowledge and thank His Excellency for his reinstatement of our illustrious son and leader, Mr. R.B. Guanah, as Commissioner for Land, Survey and Urban Development with the newly appointed commissioners of Ijaw extraction, Mr. B.B. Orubebe and Mr. Frank Omare and speedy turning of war-ravaged Okerenkoko community to a modern town.

“Our group is now revived, drumming up support for Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan’s second tenure agenda in the littoral and upper communities because it is only support that can bring development to our neglected and deprived riverine communities and Uduaghan’s eight years tenure is not the end of Delta State but there are so many years ahead for other persons from other ethnic groups to occupy the apex seat in Delta State.”

Also, NDP in a statement by its National President, Comrade David Reje, charged the Federal Government to mobilize the people towards self-reliance by providing the needed incentives and stated that gas flaring in the region will no longer be tolerated beyond 2009.

The IMPS further commended Governor Uduaghan for appointing numerous Ijaw sons into his cabinet and appealed that an Ijaw of Bomadi extraction be brought into his cabinet also to complete the team and give them a sense of belonging for their dedicated support to his administration since inception.
