Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and his Executive Assistant on Micro Credit, Dr. Antonia Ashiedu have been commended by the Imo State government for using the programme to alleviate poverty among economically weak Deltans.

The commendation was made yesterday by the Special Adviser to the lmo State Governor on Finance and Accounts, Mr. Kerian Onwuzuruike and Mr. Henry Opara a member of the Imo State Micro Credit Committee when they paid a courtesy call on the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Micro Credit Programme, Dr. Antonia Ashiedu.

They said the visit was to identify with the programme and encourage the State government to sustain the poverty alleviation project.

The visitors said the award presented to Governor Uduaghan by the Central Bank of Nigeria in January at Abuja for excellent performance in the micro credit programme was a testimony that the Uduaghan administration has the interest of the people at heart.

While saying that the lmo State government was ready to tap into the programme, they said the two States would cross fertilize ideas on how to mitigate poverty.

They said the uniqueness of the Micro-Credit programme was because it is community based and not by political patronage,

The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Micro Credit, Dr. Ashiedu who said she was elated with the encomiums showered on the programme, said the governor has been instrumental to the successes recorded in affecting the lives of Deltans.

She said her office has been working with micro finance banks to disburse loans to cluster groups approved by the Scheme, stressing that the Delta/Oceanic Micro Credit Scheme Account was floated to assist.
