State Government to Upgrade Farming Method in Oko-Ogbele.

The State Government has pledged to intervene in ensuring that farming at the bank of the River Niger in Oko-Ogbele in Oshimili South is upgraded to mechanized system.

The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Micro Credit, Dr Antonia Ashiedu made the pledge when she visited the yam and vegetable farm at Oko-Ogbele.

Dr Ashiedu who described Oko-Ogbele as the food basket of the State because of its deep involvement in the production of yam, garden egg, okro, pumpkin leaves, and potato said the farming system in the area is unprecedented.

She commended the fifteen-man Ifunanya Farmers Association for making good use of its alluvial soil to farm and expressed the hope that when Government invests in such people Deltans will not face food scarcity.

Dr Ashiedu who said good market, accessible road, and irrigation of the farm land will help the farmers enjoy optimum profit urged the private sector to assist government in turning the area into on economic nerve centre.

She said the Delta/Oceanic Micro-Credit Scheme Account DOMSA will be harnessed to revive the agricultural sector and upgrading of cottage industries.

The Secretary of the Ifunanya Farmers Association Oko-Ogbele, Mr. Stanley Agwudosi thanked the State Government for the tripartite agreement with Oceanic Bank and the Central bank of Nigeria saying it will help expand agricultural farming
