Free Health Scheme.

Witness Mammoth Crowds in Uvwie and Udu.

As the Free Rural Health Scheme ends its programme in Uvwie and Udu Local Government Areas, surgical operations were at its peak at the central Hospital, Warri.

The eye surgical section was filled with patients waiting to be operated upon as ophthalmologists battled in the theatre with cataract surgeries.

Summary of the obstetrics and gynecology in sixteen Local Government Areas already covered shows that Ethiope East has twelve, Ukwuani four, Ndokwa West Four, Isoko North-two, Warri South-three, Warri South West -two, Okpe-two, Ika North East-three, Ika South-three, Aniocha South-six, Sapele-four and Ethiope West-four.

In eye surgery, the breakdown shows that Central Hospital Ughelli has eighty two eye surgical operations, general hospital Obiaruku-twelve, general hospital Kwale-thirty six, general hopital Bomadi-nine, central hospital, Ozoro twenty two, general hospital Koko-two, central hopital Warri six, central hopital Agbor-one hundred and twenty one and central hospital Sapele thirty three.

Meanwhile as free maternal programme progresses a total of seven hundred and fifty new antenatal bookings have been recorded at the central hospital Warri from the first of January to date.

The matron in charge of the ante-natal clinic, Mrs. Grace Iyamu, disclosed this in warri while speaking with newsmen.

Mrs. Iyamu said the free maternal programme has reduced maternal mortality in the state adding that many women have benefited from the programme.

She said that because of the awareness already created, the antenatal days are always filled with pregnant women.

The Rural Health scheme moves to Burutu local government area tomorrow.
