Burutu LG Boss Tasks Contractor on Execution of Okpokunou Road.
WARRI-CHAIRMAN of Burutu Local Government Council Area of Delta State, Frank Zuokumor, yesterday charged the contractor handling the Okpokunou access road construction to execute the project to specification.
He also charged the elders and community people to create the enabling environment for the speedy completion of the road. He stated that the 550 metres by 7.5 metres road linking the Bomadi/Gbaregolor main road, when completed would fast-track the much needed development of Okpokunou town and, by extension, the entire Burutu council area. Zuokumor, made these remarks in a speech delivered on the occasion of the flag-off of construction work on the Okpokunou access road, warning that any delay in the construction work from any quarters would not be tolerated.
According to him, the state government is prepared to give the community the best as the multiplier effect of the road is that it will help create jobs during the construction and commissioning and thus reduce poverty in the land.
He noted that it was in fulfilment of his electoral promise to the people and in accordance with the three points agenda of the Governor Uduaghans' administration.
While paying glowing tribute to Ex-Governor James Ibori for initiating and completing the multi-million Naira Bomadi bridge, the council boss commended Governor Uduaghan for the massive road construction jobs going on in every part of the state.
He added that both the bridges and the Okpokunou access road and others still on-going and near completion were intended to boost the socio-economic life of the people of the communities.
Earlier in his speech, the Former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Funkekeme Solomon, who represented Governor Uduaghan, commended the council boss, Frank Zuokumor, for the giant strides made in road construction, rural electrification, provision of portable drinking water and the various empowerment programmes he has embarked upon.
Solomon asked the local government council boss to maintain the tempo, as it was in consonance with the three points agenda of the Governor.
The Okpokunou community, on their part, promised not to disappoint the council boss, saying they were eager and very willing to cooperate with the contractor for the early completion of the road. People of the community enthused that they would now be able to drive their cars to their home town.
