Youths Urge DESOPADEC to Expedite Action on Modular Refineries.
YOUTHS from the oil producing communities of Delta State rose from a summit, yesterday, urging the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) to hurry up on its plan to establish modular refineries in the oil-bearing areas so as to create employment for the jobless youths.
To this end, they resolved that a deliberate plan of action be instituted by the commission to kick-start the sensitization and enlightenment programmes on the modular refineries project amongst the diverse youth organizations and associations in the various oil producing communities.
The demand was contained in a communiqué issued by the youths at the end of a summit in Bomadi, which was attended by youth representatives from the Ijaw, Isoko, Itsekiri, Ndokwa (Ukwuani) and Urhobo ethnic nationalities as well as town unions, community-based organizations, cultural and traditional societies, community development associations, women groups, Delta State oil producing communities students associations, host communities youth group amongst others.
The signatories were the coordinator of the Forum of Accredited Youths Representatives of Delta State Oil Producing Communities, Comrade Hendrix Opukeme, Comrade Ogori Ekerebi (Ijaw), Dennis Odudu (Isoko), Shodipe Oritsegbubemi (Itsekiri), Omenogor Chukwuka (Ukwuani) and Irorogbore Ajuethsi (Urhobo).
The youths specifically commended the board and management of the DESOPADEC for initiating the modular refinery project as well as the governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan for approving the projects
