Electoral Institute Oghara Centre Commences Activities.

The Independent National Electoral Commission will commence the official activities of the electoral Institute at Oghara Centre. The Co-Ordinator, INEC Electoral Institute, Mr. Steve Osemeke disclosed this while briefing the Press on the activities to mark the official commencement of operations at the Institute.

Mr. Osemeke said the Oghara centre of the Electoral Institute was established in 2007 pointing out that INEC pleased to have been offered the opportunity to nurture the country's democracy saying, the three arm of Government is flourishing based on the principles of the rule of law.

He said the Institute will train the needed manpower for election management and administration adding that the Institute is a land mark achievement in the electoral history of Nigeria.

The INEC Electoral Institute Coordinator said with the commencement of activities at the Oghara centre an opportunity has been created for a paradigm shift in the process of democratic consolidation.

He stressed that the Institute is aimed at making election administration a profession by giving it a professional status stating that the Institute is collaborating with three universities for training and retraining programmes geared towards human capacity building for INEC staff and State Independent Electoral Commissions as well as election management bodies outside the country.

Mr. Osemeke said the Chairman of INEC, Professor Maurice Iwu will deliver a lecture on 'the Electoral Institute and the search for Democratic consolidation and economic Development in Nigeria'.
