CJ Concludes Visit to Prisons, Enjoins Parents to Monitor Their Wards.
The State Chief judge Justice Roseline Bozimo has concluded her visits to prison formations across the State with a word of advice to parents to always monitor their children to prevent them from falling into bad hands.
The Chief Judge who granted a total number of one hundred and twenty seven awaiting trial inmates freedom advised those released to be of good character stressing that they might not get a second chance next time.
She said when a child is brought up properly he or she will not be influenced to go into crime. She noted that it was painful to see young men wasting away in prison instead of contributing to the growth of the economy.
Earlier, the Assistant Comptroller of Prison Ogwashi-Uku, Mr. Godwin Evboeruan drew the attention of the Chief Judge to activities of some court officials and inmates counsel to obtain false release from prison custody.
The Comptroller also complained about the non availability of vehicles to take inmates to court. Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, Asaba branch, Barrister Wilson Chibugwu observed that it was necessary for Federal Courts to be represented at any prison visit because some of the cases are for them.
The Chief judge freed forty three inmates at the Warri prison, thirty eight in Sapele, fourteen in Kwale, eleven in Agbor and eighteen at Ogwashi-Uku.
The categories of people released included those who have no case files and have stayed in the prison for years, some of them on the advise of the department of public Prosecution, some have no case to answer, while some were freed based on the offence committed and the number of already spent years in prison if they were to be convicted among others.
