Benefactors of the State Micro Credit Programme in Oshimili South have expressed appreciation to the State government for implementing the programme in the State.

The clients spoke variously at Asaba after being presented with certificates of registration to access their loans from the designated Micro Finance Bank for Oshimili South Local Government Area.

The benefactors amongst whom were five physically challenged persons; Kate Oputa, Evelyn Paragon, Esther Edor, Endurance Obi and Monday Ojeme are into business centre operation, photography, hairdressing and barbing.

Farmers and traders from Oko-Ogbele, Oko-Anala, Oko-Amakom, Ani-Olu and other places often regarded as difficult to reach, also received certificates at the occasion.

A total of one hundred and twelve groups made up of one thousand, two hundred and forty-two persons have so far been empowered in Oshimili South since the opening of the bank about two weeks ago.

The Managing Director of the Financial Institution, Mr. Frank Onwuachi said the Delta State Micro Credit Programme, DMCP, had been acclaimed as one of the best policies implemented by the State government. Mr. Onwuachi said that the DMCP had not only empowered skilled but economically weak Deltans in all the local government areas but also contributed to the peace being enjoined in the State presently.

He commended the State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan for introducing and implementing the DMCP and other development programmes to achieve the three-point agenda of the present administration.

Addressing the clients, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Micro Credit, Dr Antonia Ashiedu, reiterated that any group that met the guidelines of the DMCP would be empowered.

Dr Ashiedu commended those who were able to organize themselves to meet the guidelines within a short time and urged them to apply the loans strictly for business and shun temptations to divert the money into luxury ventures.

The Executive Assistant reminded them that wealth came from businesses and advised them to manage their businesses prudently to repay the loans and create opportunity for others to be empowered.
