Members of the Nigeria National Volunteer  Service, NNVS have been told to co-ordinate various voluntary organizations in  the State for meaningful development in line with the present administrations  three agenda.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr.  Ifeanyi Okowa stated this while declaring open a Volunteer Consultative Forum  organized by the State Chapter of the NNVS in Asaba.

Dr. Okowa represented by the Permanent  Secretary, Mr. Andy Omokri, explained that the State Government established the  NNVS to enable Deltans tap into the huge reservoir of skills, knowledge and  expertise of professionals in the State.

He expressed optimism that the forum will  enable Deltans appreciate the abundant benefits to be derived from the  establishment of Volunteer Corps in the education system which will in turn  lead to increase in interest in volunteerism.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for  Education, Dr. Elizabeth Uvoh-Gardner, charged members of the NNVS to be  patriotic and committed in rendering selfless service to humanity at no cost.

She said volunteerism should not be seen as  a way out of unemployment and charged participants to be ready to make  sacrifice towards the development of the State in particular and the country in  general.

In his contribution, the Special Adviser to  the Governor on Millennium Development Goals, Dr. Austin Obidi, said as  volunteers, they should contribute their quota in ensuring the development of  the Country through the actualization of the MDGs.

The forum featured the presentation of  lectures by Dr. Augustine Ikelegbe who spoke on ‘the role of Volunteerism in  the Education system’, while Dr. Andrew Oronsaye delivered a lecture on ‘Lack  of Volunteerism and Patriotism the Bane of Sustainable Development’.

The State Co-ordinator of the NNVS, Mr.  Lucky Abioluwajumi delivered a lecture on Volunteerism as a Veritable Tool for  Sustainable Development.
