Warri|Effurun Water Scheme:
Majemite Decries Slow Pace of Work.
Contractors handling the Warri/Effurun Water Project have been told to redouble their efforts to ensure the early completion of the water scheme.
The Hon. Commissioner for Special Duties, Government House, Barr. Fred Majemite, whose office supervises the project, gave the charge while on routine inspection to the project site. He decried the slow pace of work while been conducted round the site, adding that the state Government places a high priority on the timely completion of the scheme.
He said "Government is committed to the speedy completion of the project, adding that this is evident from the huge sum of money spent on the scheme so far.
Majemite revealed that the sum of N1.6 Billion Naira has been allocated to the project in this year's budget, out of which payments have been made to the contractors, this he said, underscores the willingness of the Uduaghan administration to execute the project properly.
He therefore reassured the Contractors that the state Government will continuously release funds when necessary, as the project is key to the infrastructural development agenda of the present administration.
In their remark, the contractors appealed to the state government to ensure early release of funds so that, the project could be completed as scheduled, while thanking the state government for the payments, made to them recently.
It would be recalled that the Warri/Effurun water scheme is solely financed by the state government, and it is expected on completion to provide potable water to communities within the Warri/Effurun axis.
The project which is in its first phase, consists of a water treatment plant, sets of high-lift pumps, underground water tank, a 50metre water tower and an installed capacity of 680,000 liters of water per day.
