Delta Earmarks N1.6bn to Revitalise Media Houses.
Delta State Government has provided over N1.6 billion in its 2010 budget to address the challenges facing the state owned Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), the State Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN), has revealed.
Utuama, who is the Chairman of the Committee on the third anniversary of the administration of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, the governor of the state, disclosed this yesterday in Asaba while briefing the press on activities lined up for the celebration.
He informed that the state government was poised to reposition its media outfits and has budgeted N1.6 billion to reinvigorate the DBS and another N150 million for the Pointer Newspaper, adding that the government intends to put DBS on satellite very soon.
According to him, the Democracy Day Celebration in the state this year "will not be an occasion for the traditional recital of achievements, rather, it provides a unique opportunity in a very modest way to take stock of how far the three- point agenda of the administration has been implemented, the way forward for the overall optimal goal of the state, and its socio-economic transformation into an economic hub of our nation.
"The opportunity should therefore be used in advising ourselves on any observed individual and/or collective responsibilities as well as weaknesses that could hinder the attainment of our set objectives which is the development of the state.
"Utuama explained that the state government has therefore planned an inter-denominational thanksgiving service at the Living Faith Church, Asaba on Saturday , May 29, the Democracy Day.
He noted that the governor has remained focused in his electoral promises, making the state safe for all to live in. ‘’Infrastructural revolution aimed at creating the enabling environment for sustainable development of the state, economic empowerment and social security are being accorded priority attention in line with the three-point agenda of the present administration."
Utuama listed other activities lined up to mark the anniversary to include inauguration of roads, bridges, and health facilities.
