Forty-man Task Force for Waste Disposal Inaugurated.
A forty-man State Task Force of the Waste Management Board to ensure maintenance and monitoring of illegal refuse disposal and vehicle abandonment in major cities and towns in the state has been inaugurated.
The Chairman of the Waste Management Board, Chief Frank Omare who performed the inauguration said the Task Force is a collaborative effort of the Board with other agencies committed to a clean and healthy environment in the State.
Chief Omare listed Asaba, Warri, Uvwie, Udu and some satellite towns in the State as locations to be covered by the forty-man Task Force while the State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation, the Task Force on Beautification for Asaba, Effurun and Warri, the Delta State Oil producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, and the affected Local Government authorities will collaborate with the Board to achieve the desired goals.
Chief Omare noted that with the coming on stream of the Task Force the era of indiscriminate refuse disposal, abandonment of vehicles and other activities that deface the cities was over.
He warned residents particularly the private sector partners, to adhere strictly to the new directive as the task force has been empowered to arrest and prosecute defaulters through mobile courts adding that the task force will be on twenty-four hour surveillance.
