Lagos, Nigeria (CNN) -- Nigeria's ailing President Umaru Yar'Adua, who gave amnesty to armed militants in the troubled oil-rich Niger Delta region, died Wednesday, the country's information minister said. He was 58.

The Federal Government may have rescinded its earlier decision to leave petroleum pump prices at their current rates notwithstanding the soaring crude oil price. Special Adviser to President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua on Petroleum, Dr. Emmanuel Egbogah, said petroleum products pump prices would be reduced by not less 25 per cent.
